The Association of American Railroads (AAR), established in 1934, represents the U.S. freight rail industry. It provides policy analysis and advocacy, and as the standard-setting organization for North America's railroads it establishes safety, security and operating standards for nearly 135,000 miles of freight rail lines. Through its subsidiaries Railinc and MxV Rail, AAR carries out research, testing and technology work on rail safety, cybersecurity, equipment standards and network efficiency, and publishes industry data and reports.
