The National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMSGlobal) was established in 1962 by 84 charter members, with roots in a 1948 group of independent surveyors organized by Underwriters Laboratories' Yacht Safety Bureau. It certifies marine surveyors in three disciplines: yachts and small craft, cargo, and hull and machinery. Members who complete certification are designated NAMS Certified Marine Surveyors (NAMS-CMS) and must keep their certification through an annual recertification program. NAMSGlobal now has a global membership.
